A BIT OF HISTORY

GREAT FOOD AND SECOND CHANCES..

Is not just a catchy strapline for a project idea, at Mentoring West Midlands and in the Straight Six Cafe we believe that if people want to make changes in their lives we should help them to do that and on the way, assist them to gain skills in a working environment which is designed to develop them and, make great food.

The cafe is a funded project by CFO3 as part of the Ministry of Justice's Development Fund and we have money to develop the business and so create a social enterprise which is self funding. During 2022 we have set up at Carlton Hill in Nottingham and created two 'Straight Six Sauces' which are central to our growing fan base. The sauces were created in partnership with Nottingham College's catering and training department and two young people worked for weeks to create them from scratch.

On site we offer formal cafe based training and the opportunity to gain certification in food hygiene and other related areas and also undertake accredited training in hospitality and customer services. So, when the placement is complete we will have hopefully moved someone from 'raw recruit' to where they can walk proudly into work or maybe further training knowing the journey they've been on has not only helped them but will help others too.
